Book Coach Asks ‘Where Are All The Women’ As Bestseller Lists Dominated by Men

According to BusinessWeek’s top Business Books of 2009, just two out of the 20 authors listed were women.

April 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Even Amazon’s results agree, lining up no women at all in their ‘Top Ten: New Thinking In Business Books’ list. Even the fiction chart fairs badly, with just 7 women featuring in the Top Twenty Waterstone’s paperback chart. One publishing expert has had enough and is calling for more women to take up the challenge and get their book written in 2010.

Mindy Gibbins-Klein, who is also known as the Book Midwife®, has long been aware of lack of women being represented as thought leaders both in the business world and as authors and has already begun her journey to get more women to write their books.

So far this year, Ms Gibbins-Klein has successfully helped 18 women go from concept and planning to finished manuscript within 90 days. She also has a well-known face on her client list. Ms Gibbins-Klein is in the process of helping BBC Apprentice finalist Claire Young with her book on empowering young women. Claire’s book is due out later this year.

Ms Gibbins-Klein is outraged at how under-represented women are in the bestseller lists and says, “I cannot believe that out of three lists combining 50 names just 9 of them are women. I don’t know why more women aren’t writing their books as they have just a valid contributions to make to the world as their male counterparts. In a decade where there are so many options available, self publishing, e-books and online publishing, there really is no excuse to rise to the challenge, and with some dedicated book coaching they could have the completed manuscript ready in just 90 days.”

Mindy, who is the founder of Ecademy Press, is herself is an accomplished author of two book A Dance in the Desert (Ecademy Press), and the recently released 24 Carat BOLD (Ecademy Press) where she discusses her views on how to be a successful thought leader. Ms Gibbins-Klein has also been asked to speak at the IoD Women as Leaders event in November, covering the REAL Thought Leadership topic to female executives.

“In a world where leaders are required to be more visible and vocal, publishing a book is becoming an inevitable method of recording this insight and passing their unique expertise and life experienced onto others. For every inspirational male leader there is an inspirational female leader with an equally spectacular story to tell. Recent news that women will take 60 years to catch up with men in the top job positions, so we’ll just have to get to work dominating the book charts in the meantime,” says Ms Gibbins-Klein.
