Arielle Kerry, a freshman at Lincoln-Way West, has had a successful first year as the editor in chief of the fine arts magazine, ‘State of the Art’.

“This was a challenging job. We had a lot of submissions for the art portion and the writing portion of the magazine. All of the submissions were really good, it was hard to decide which to include, but we didn’t have room for all of them,” said Arielle.

The fine arts magazine has 31 pages which include 60 pieces of art and 9 poems. The cover design was chosen by a cover design contest in the senior graphics design class, taught by Bill Howard.

“We chose the cover design so when students in the future remember back to the year 2011 when the iPad was really cool,” noted Arielle.

Arielle said she was told by a teacher about the fine arts magazine. She said she remembered seeing it last year and really liked the magazine and thought it would be fun to help put it together.

“I am a good writer, I wanted to help out. Then I found myself as editor-n- chief,” she said with a smile.

“We have seen a lot of students walking around with the magazine today in the halls. That tells us they are interested in it and are enjoying it,” noted Steve Borchert, English teacher and faculty sponsor of the fine arts magazine.

Students also on the editorial board are: Angela Giaquinto, Michelle Hansen, Lauren Ternes and Courtney Shoaf.
