(NewsTarget) Lyme disease is an infection in the blood that is spread by tick bites. The disease was named for the town of Old Lyme, Connecticut, where the disease was first reported in 1975. The Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria cause Lyme disease and the disease is also known as Borreliosis because of this. Apple cider vinegar has been shown to treat the symptoms of Lyme disease and to kill the bacteria.

Cause of Lyme Disease
Deer are the first carriers of Lyme disease, and if an infected tick bites a human, the bacteria spread to the human bloodstream. However, most tick bites do not lead to Lyme disease.

Diagnosis of Lyme Disease
After a tick bite, there is frequently a small, red swelling at the site, called an erythema migrans. This is a clear indication of infection. But the swelling occurs in less than half the population, making diagnosis of Lyme disease difficult. The tick is not always observed either, as it can detach by itself. A blood test is used to diagnosis the presence of antibodies to the bacteria.

Symptoms of Lyme Disease
After the first swelling at the site of the tick bite, further small rashes and skin eruptions spread to various spots on the body. As the bacteria releases toxins into the blood, further symptoms arise, such as joint pain and flu-like symptoms. As the disease progresses, more complex neurological symptoms appear, such as memory loss, Bell's Palsy, fatigue, insomnia, numbness, heart rhythm abnormalities, vision problems and meningitis. Left untreated, Lyme disease can lead to a loss of mobility and severe neurological conditions.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a folk medicine cure used for hundreds of years. It is made by fermenting apple juice. It acts as an antiseptic, and antibiotic, killing the bacteria that cause Lyme disease. Apple cider vinegar has also been used to treat acid reflux, arthritis, diabetes, and high blood pressure. (Note: Apple cider vinegar can irritate ulcers or heartburn.)

How to Take Apple Cider Vinegar for Lyme Disease
Use organic and unfiltered apple cider vinegar if possible, because it will not contain remnants of pesticides from sprayed apples. Mix one to three teaspoons of apple cider vinegar into an eight-ounce cup of water. This can be sweetened with honey to taste. Drink before a meal three times a day. Use room temperature water, or hot water, which makes the drink taste like a tangy tea.
