The Association of Booksellers for Children and the American Booksellers Association moved another step closer to a possible merger with the release last Thursday of a letter of agreement. The letter, which can be read here in full, explains that the groups intend to enter into a “good-faith process at the staff level to generate a formal plan for how ABC will be integrated into ABA should a merger vote be approved.”

The possibility of a merger was first raised back in 2009, and in February the ABC approached the ABA with specifics about creating a merger proposal.

According to the letter, after June 1, a joint ABC/ABA Task Force will formulate a merger plan to be put before voting members of the ABC in September.
