Gefen Publishing House of Jerusalem is the Fastest Growing Jewish/Zionist Book Publisher in the World

A recent survey conducted in Israel by Bar-Ilan University and Galilee Institute for Practical Zionism analyst Dr. Mike Cohen has determined that Gefen Publishing House of Jerusalem is the fastest growing Jewish/Zionist book publisher in the world. The results come just as Gefen’s CEO, Ilan Greenfield, announced that his company will once again be participating in the world’s premier book convention, Book Expo America, which will take place May 26-27 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in NYC.

New York, NY, May 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Jerusalem: What do Israeli heroes Yoni Netanyahu, Eli Cohen, Tal Brody, Naomi Shemer and Ilan Ramon; peace makers Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat; journalist Caroline Glick; U.S. based rabbis Shmuel Goldin, Steven Pruzansky and Israel Drazin; Israel-based rabbis Ari Kahn, Avi Baumol, and Stanley M. Wagner; retired Israeli judge Ruth Ben Israel and Israeli teachers Chana Levitan, Yossi Katz and D. Lawrence Young all have in common?

A recent survey conducted in Israel by Bar-Ilan University and Galilee Institute for Practical Zionism analyst Dr. Mike Cohen has determined that Gefen Publishing House of Jerusalem is the fastest growing Jewish/Zionist book publisher in the world. The results come just as Gefen’s CEO, Ilan Greenfield, announced that his company will once again be participating in the world’s premier book convention, Book Expo America, which will take place Wednesday May 26 - Thursday, May 27 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York. Gefen will be the only Israel-based publisher to participate in the Expo.

“Gefen Publishing House, Ltd. publishes and prints some 25 original titles in Israel each year,” said Greenfield. “Our subjects are diverse and include a wide variety of themes; among them biblical commentary, Israeli historical novels, Holocaust memoirs, multi-language dictionaries, Zionist thought, Haggadot and award-winning children's books.”

While the publishing industry has been hit hard and struggled in recent years, Gefen is proud to have had one of its best years ever in 2009 and is striving for even stronger results in 2010. “We will not publish anything that is offensive to the Zionist ideal,” explains Greenfield. “We are selective in that way but otherwise very open to new ideas and concepts. We are also very different in that the entire process of publishing, design and printing takes place here in Israel. We are a 100% Blue & White shop, and take significant pride in that.”

Zionist activists Murray and Hana Greenfield founded Gefen Publishing House in Jerusalem over 30 years ago and eventually turned over the management to their two sons, Ilan and his late brother Dror. Their goal was to bring Zionist and Jewish thought to light in a manner profitable to all but yet affordable to the potential reader. “It’s not an easy balance to strike,” says proud father Murray, “but I think Ilan and Dror found it. Being loyal to our principles is part of the calculations we make every day, and believe it or not, we also enjoy what we do!”

Gefen’s titles this past year have drawn the attention of many, including the editors of the Jerusalem Post and the Jerusalem Post Christian Edition, both of whom published multi-paged features on Gefen books.

Steimatzky, Israel’s largest book distributor, has recently featured Gefen Publishing’s “Bible Illuminations: From Creation Until Moses” by retired Israeli judge, Professor Ruth Ben Israel in full window displays in central locations in both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, a first for the “small” publishing house.

To continue in it’s efforts to be the premier Jewish/Zionist Publisher and with the goal of increasing sales worldwide - just over a year ago - Mr. Michael Fischberger, former Chief Operating Officer of Telecom giant IDT, joined Gefen as a partner and Co-CEO.

“Coming from the world of high-tech to that of publishing has had its challenges,” adds Fischberger, “but we are happy with how things have been progressing.

“Our distribution capabilities are growing, our markets are growing and our relationships with other publishers are growing. Many more authors of note are seeking us out, yet we will continue with our conservative approach as we continue to grow our market.”
