Ed Sheeran Now Has 3 Of The Top 5 Songs In The U.K.

This article is more than 7 years old.

Ed Sheeran is not only refusing to let go of his iron-tight grip on the top of the British charts, he’s actually taking up even more valuable real estate as the weeks go by. For the seventh week in a row, his tropical-pop tune “Shape Of You” is on top of the tally, which is the song’s entire charting life. It debuted in that slot last month and hasn’t let go ever since.

For the first few frames “Shape” was on the U.K. singles ranking, it was immediately followed by Sheeran’s other current cut, “Castle On The Hill.” The two debuted together at Nos. 1 and 2, making the red-haired singer-songwriter the first person in history to debut a pair of tracks in the highest two slots. “Castle” has started to slide, but Sheeran quickly replaced it, and this week he owns the uppermost positions yet again. This time, his new song “How Would You Feel (Paean)” begins in the runner-up position, right behind “Shape,” while “Castle” is still doing well down at No. 4.

In between Sheeran’s three hit single at No. 3 is Rag’N’Bone Man’s “Human,” which has yet again been denied the peak spot. The song is currently helping the new BRIT Award winner’s debut full-length of the same name hold onto the No. 1 spot on the albums tally.

Katy Perry’s new single “Chained To The Rhythm,” which features up-and-coming reggae-rock-pop singer Skip Marley, has risen from its No. 7 debut to the top five, giving the pop star her twelfth top five smash in the country.

The next three songs all move down, pushed backwards by Perry’s rise and Sheeran’s many hits. At No. 6 is Jax Jones and Raye’s “You Don’t Know Me,” followed by Taylor Swift and Zayn’s “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” at No. 7 and The Chainsmokers’ “Paris” at No. 8.

Starting at No. 9 is “It Ain’t Me,” the collaborative new single from dance producer Kygo and pop singer Selena Gomez. The track also just debuted in the U.S., though it still has a ways to go before it makes it into the top 10. This is the third top 10-charting single for Gomez and just the second for Kygo.

Rounding out the highest tier on the singles listing this time around is Little Mix’s “Touch,” the second official cut taken off their recent chart-topping album Glory Days, which has now had two songs (the other being the BRIT Award-winning “Shout Out To My Ex”) make it into the top five.
