'La La Land' Wins 6 Oscars, Director Damien Chazelle Accepts His Award Wearing Jaeger-LeCoultre

La La Land, Damien Chazelle’s epic Los Angeles fairy tale, was nominated for 14 Academy Awards at the 89th annual ceremony, which took place on Sunday, February 26 amidst a number of political protests and messages. On that note, I think it is telling that this musical fairy tale tied the record with All About Eve and Titanic for the most nominations ever: society certainly needs a moment to get lost in song and dance right now.

And with 14 nominations, the film focusing on two struggling young artists in Tinseltown of yesteryear was hardly going to leave the Dolby Theater a loser. And neither was Swiss watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre, whose watches were worn by both the film's director/screenplay writer Damien Chazelle and editor Tom Cross on the exciting evening. Cross did not win his category.

Chazelle wore his lovely pink gold Master Grande Ultra Thin Small Second as he picked up his trophy.

The team of Chazelle and Cross may sound familiar to you: indeed, these two men were respectively the director/writer and editor of Whiplash, which claimed five trophies at the 87th Academy Awards in 2015, including one for editing. Cross picked up his statue back then wearing a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso.

La La Land broke the record for wins at the Golden Globes earlier in the year with seven, where Chazelle took home Globes for both writing and directing wearing this same good luck charm: the pink gold Master Grande Ultra Thin Small Second.

Ryan Gosling, a noted watch connoisseur, sported a vintage Omega in the film, but went home empty-handed from the Oscar ceremony.
