Rising tennis star Madison Keys has signed a global multi-year agreement with evian, becoming the first American ambassador of the water brand sourced from the French Alps.

The 22-year-old Keys “will be featured in advertising campaigns and point of sale displays at evian’s retail channels in North America,” her management company, IMG, said in an emailed statement. She’ll also take part in new product launches.

No financial details were disclosed.

Keys isn’t the first tennis player to sign with the French brand owned by the world’s biggest yoghurt maker Danone: five-time grand slam winner Maria Sharapova has partnered evian since 2010. Both are represented by IMG.

“Madison Keys is an amazing representative for the evian brand,” said Antoine Portmann, general manager, Danone Waters of America.

“Like evian, Madison understands that it’s the source - where you start from - and the journey itself that shapes who and what you are,” he added.

Keys said she “couldn’t be more honored to work with evian, a company that understands that achieving excellence takes hard work, time and commitment – the mindset that evian and I share.”

In possession of one of the biggest serves in the women’s game, Keys had a breakthrough season in 2016. She became the first American woman to break into the Top 10 in seventeen years after winning her second title on the grass of Birmingham, England in June. She also reached the WTA Championships for the top eight players in the world in Singapore at the end of the season.

Keys first burst onto the scene in 2015, when she reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open under the guidance of former Wimbledon winner Lindsay Davenport. World No. 1 and fellow American Serena Williams, who stopped Keys in the last four in Melbourne, was full of praise afterwards, saying she could be a future top-ranked player.

Keys, who missed this year’s Australian Open because of wrist surgery, has re-united with Davenport this season.
