Chelsea targets Dries Mertens and Romelu Lukaku combined as Belgium salvaged a draw in their tense World Cup qualifying match with Greece on Saturday night.

Greece looked set to pull off an upset in Brussels, following Kostas Mitroglou’s opener in the 46th minute, but in-form Everton striker Lukaku volleyed home an equaliser to make it 1-1 at the death.

The Toffees forward is widely expected to swap Goodison Park for Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window and it’s no surprise considering his barnstorming form for club and country this term.

Reports suggest Mertens, who grabbed the assist at the King Baudouin Stadium, is also being targeted by Antonio Conte ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

It’s understood Chelsea officials held a meeting over a move for the Napoli star back in December off the back of a scintillating season in Italy.

Rather ridiculously, Mertens has managed 20 goals in 26 Serie A matches already this term which has put a number of top European clubs on red alert.

The 29-year-old’s assist for Lukaku came just moments after he was shown a booking for pinching Georgios Tzavellas’ nose during the Group H tie.
