Boy at Yankee Stadium struck in head by Chris Carter broken bat

A young boy was struck in the head by Chris Carter’s broken bat and carried out of Yankee Stadium in the seventh inning of Wednesday night’s 3-0 win over the Royals.

Carter’s bat shattered on a grounder to the right side and carried into the seats behind the third-base dugout. The boy, who appeared to have a pair of crutches with him, left the stadium in the arms of a man, while clutching a white cloth to his forehead.

The unidentified boy was treated at the Stadium and taken for further treatment. The Yankees, because of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act) rules, didn’t comment on the extent of the injury.

“You never want that to happen. I guess the good side of it is the bat didn’t pierce him or anything like that. Hope he’s OK,’’ Carter said. “The ball went to second base and the bat went in the stands.

“I definitely knew the bat went over there, I just didn’t know if it hit somebody or what happened. I was going to first base.

“Definitely, once I find out what happened to the kid and where they’re at, hopefully I can get a hold of him, at least.’’
