Veteran restaurateurs to open Indian joint in Upper Manhattan

A new Indian restaurant, Mumbai Masala Indian Grill, is opening in Hamilton Heights/Sugar Hill at 1768 Amsterdam Ave., from veteran restaurateurs Salim Rahman (Tikka Indian Grill in Williamsburg and Kew Gardens), Amin Ruhel (Tripti, Dipali) and Bangladesh born chef Fatema Khatum.

Signature dishes in the 30- seat eatery include lamb madras, with coconut, and curry dry red chilies; jhinga moilee (shrimp, turmeric, coconut milk) and vegetarian options like red pumpkin thoran (sautéed coconut, mustard seeds, and curry leaves).

WE HEAR … That Chef Angie Mar, one of Food & Wine’s best new chefs 2017, prepared a decadent meal at her West Village eatery, the Beatrice Inn, to celebrate winemaker Bryce Willingham’s Ravage, her 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, from Lodi, California.
