Runaway horse gallops through Hell’s Kitchen during rush hour

A horse got loose and galloped through Hell’s Kitchen during rush hour Tuesday afternoon, cops said.

Calls to 911 about the brown horse started coming in a few minutes before 5 p.m. and continued for about 5 minutes, police said.

“I know there’s a horse running around,” an NYPD spokesman quipped at one point.

Callers reported seeing the animal with reins but no saddle at West 54th Street and Ninth Avenue, West 52nd Street and 11th Avenue, West 54th Street and 11th Avenue, West 54th and 10th Avenue.

A police spokesman later said the horse — which likely came from a nearby stable that offers rides to tourists — was apparently caught.

Two weeks ago, a tourist horse being ridden through traffic on Eighth Avenue toward Central Park got spooked by a truck and fell backward, hitting a taxi, its owner said.
