Theme park visitors want biometrics tech used for identity verification
Omnico has published a new research report that finds that 85 percent of consumers in the US, UK, China, Japan and Malaysia want theme parks to use artificial intelligence (AI) systems for ID verification for greater convenience.
Chinese visitors are the most willing, with 92 percent in favor of being subjected to AI-based technologies for ID verification.
Fingerprint recognition is the most popular biometric identification method across the five countries (32 percent), while consumers in China prefer facial recognition (41 percent). Palm-recognition was favored by only 15 percent overall.
The findings are based on the Omnico Theme Park Barometer, which surveyed 3,470 consumers in the five countries who have visited a theme park within the last two years.
“Theme park visitors want to be part of the revolution in technology,” said Mel Taylor, CEO of Omnico Group. “Everyone can see how AI and other advances such as virtual and augmented reality will take the hassle out of visits. It’s time for operators to recognize that technology is essential to giving visitors the enjoyable, all-round experience they now demand.”
The study also found that 89 percent of consumers across the five countries want theme parks to use virtual reality technology to help them further benefit from visits by using headsets to select rides, restaurants, hotel rooms and souvenirs.
Earlier this year Oracle revealed findings of two research initiatives which showed that biometrics will play a significant role in the hospitality industry.
