West Bromwich Albion captain Jonny Evans is set to sign a new contract after the club rejected the advances of Leicester City.

Sportsmail understands the former Manchester United man, 29, will be rewarded with a new deal at The Hawthorns in the near future.

Leicester were considering an improved £15million bid for West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans after seeing their opening offer of £10m rejected last week.

It is believed Leicester launched the first bid before Hull accepted a deal worth £17m for Harry Maguire but head coach Craig Shakespeare still felt there was room for the Northern Ireland international in his squad.

Evans has two years remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns and the club have made it clear they have no interest in selling him.

West Brom have also lodged a bid for Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs while relegated Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson could soon be on his way to the Black Country if manager Tony Pulis gets his way.

The Baggies are currently in Hong Kong for the Premier League's Asia Trophy, where they will take on Leicester City on Wednesday.
