We are all human that's why you can't just FIX cybersecurity!

"Never before have so few, stole so much, from so many that the many fail to see a problem!"

It has probably been done to death, but cybercrime is at rampant levels and everyone is demanding that something be done.  As long as the internet doesn't change or I don't have to change!

The problem is, cybersecurity, business security even personal security are all areas that take a lot to FIX!

The problem with cybersecurity is that there is an underlying physiology that has been taken straight from the real world.

In our normal everyday world we use all of our senses.  A blind man who augments his loss of sight with an increase in touch or a deaf woman who uses her eyes to lip read.

In the digital world we try to augment the loss of our senses by relying heavily on just one.

On the internet we lose all of our senses except for sight.

In addition we have this overwhelming sense that everyone is like us and everyone will play by the rules.

Most of us are sort of honest, sort of nice, sort of truthful. Where is that line between honest and dishonest? How much before we cross that line and make it dishonest.

Using that 15 year old photo on a dating site! Running a cybercrime empire! Being bitchy on social media! Trolling a celebrity on twitter. Some are OK? All are OK?

In today’s world they are all OK on the internet but not OK in the real world.

This attitude is really stupid! We all know human nature. We know there are a-holes out there, we even know a few in real life.  The ones in real life we tolerate, or keep at arm’s length.

Removing that recognition of a person in real life because we know where someone lives or works, means we can be as nasty, condescending and bitchy as we like.

No repercussions for that nasty comment. No impact for being a bastard! No fallout from that obscene post!

In cyberspace there are no checks and balances. Anyone, anywhere, friend or foe can be an a-hole.

This is the problem.

You do not even have to know someone to be an a-hole to them. Look at some of the crap that happens on social media. It would not happen if the repercussions where a fat lip. (No i am not condoning violence, although some people deserve them!)

If someone called you an a-hole on social media, there are no repercussions. Call them that to their face, well you get the picture!

Because of this attitude we have come to accept it. In some circles we embrace it.

To FIX cybersecurity we have to FIX the people that are using the cyber world. The only way to do that is to have some sort of causality. Some level of cause and effect. That is not an easy thing to do. In fact we are finding it impossible.

I am open to ideas!  What do you think?
