Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed Manchester United's EFL Cup semi-final clash against Hull City on Tuesday night due to illness.

Ibrahimovic's absence was confirmed by United on Twitter just under an hour before kick-off.

The 35-year-old was an unused substitute on Saturday as Jose Mourinho's side beat Reading 4-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

United's official Twitter account confirmed the news of Ibrahimovic's absence on Tuesday

And Mourinho confirmed after the game that his star striker should be available for the visit of Liverpool on Sunday.

The former Sweden international wasn't spotted on Tuesday afternoon as United players met at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester ahead of the game with Hull at Old Trafford.

Ibrahimovic is United's top scorer this season, having scored 18 goals in 28 appearances.

Marcus Rashford was trusted to play in attack against Hull with Anthony Martial on the substitutes' bench.

Mourinho was, however, able to fill his bench unlike Hull's new manager Marco Silva, who could only find six players fit enough to select.
