Jo Konta races past Su-Wei Hsieh in 65 minutes to set up last-16 clash with Jelena Ostapenko at Italian Open
- British No 1 Jo Konta needed little over an hour to beat Su-Wei Hsieh in Rome
- Konta prevailed 6-0, 6-4 to book her place in the last 16 of the Italian Open
- She will now face reigning French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko
Jo Konta earned herself a shot at the reigning French Open champion after making surprisingly quick progress through to the last 16 at the Foro Italico.
The British No 1 will face Jelena Ostapenko after overcoming Su-Wei Hsieh 6-0, 6-4 at the Italian Open, gaining revenge for her clay-court loss to the same player in the first round of Roland Garros last year.
Konta seems to be running into some decent form at an opportune time, given the amount of points she has to defend from 12 months ago.
British No 1 Jo Konta (above) needed little over an hour to beat Taiwan's Su-Wei Hsieh in Rome
She took only 19 minutes to win the first set against a listless-looking Hsieh, who came in on form herself as she had won three matches to get this far, including two in qualifying.
Facing one of the most unorthodox players in the game, complete with double handed forehand, Konta kept her composure when the Taiwanese upped her level in the second set.
Having been broken at 5-2 she needed five match points to clinch it, but won when she punched away a volley at the net.
Ostapenko will provide a good gauge of where Konta stands going into such a crucial part of the season.
