Premier League clubs on alert as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang axed from Borussia Dortmund squad

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Borussia Dortmund future has been plunged into doubt.

The striker has been axed from the German club's squad for Friday's trip to Stuttgart for disciplinary reasons.

Dortmund revealed the news on Twitter, after a supporter had asked why Aubameyang was not with teammates at Dortmund airport on Thursday.

"Aubameyang has been removed from the squad for tomorrow's match for disciplinary reasons," read the Twitter post.

It is the second time Aubameyang has been suspended for disciplinary reasons.

The Gabon international missed the Champions League clash with Sporting CP in November 2016 after being sanctioned for an unscheduled trip to Italy.

Aubameyang's latest banishment is likely to put some of the Premier League's biggest clubs on alert.

The 28-year-old has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe over the past five seasons, scoring 135 goals in 206 games for Dortmund.
