‘Welcome back, Lad’ – West Ham United fans rally round Andy Carroll after goal against Birmingham

Hammers supporters had been giving stick prior to netting the second goal of the game in the FA Cup third round

West Ham United are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after they beat Birmingham City 2-0 at the London Stadium.

Marko Arnautovic netted the opener after two minutes and the second came from Andy Carroll after 90 minutes.

And the colossal forward's header earned him a huge amount of supporter from the Hammers fans, who were intent on protecting him from some of the hate he had received during the match.

Carroll was emotional after scoring his goal, his 34th for the club in 136 games during an injury hit six-year spell in east London.

There have recently been reports linking him with a return to Newcastle United, in a swap deal with Jonjo Shelvey but for the moment he remains a Hammer, with manager Manuel Pellegrini insisting he will stay at the club.

And, as you can see below, fans were thankful he was still around at the London Stadium.
