Jurgen Klopp warned Philippe Coutinho of the dangers of joining Barcelona .

The Brazilian has had a tough start to life at the Nou Camp having arrived from Liverpool a year ago.

He has failed to nail down a regular starting spot under Ernesto Valverde with his future already in doubt.

Reports this week suggested Barca were already considering letting Coutinho go to fund a deal to re-sign Neymar.

Coutinho had his heart set on a move to the Nou Camp for some time with Liverpool managing to hold onto him for the first half of the 2017/18 season.

But that was only after some words of advice from Reds boss Klopp that the grass may not always be greener.

"Stay here and they will end up building a statue in your honour," he said in May 2017.

"Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid , and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more."

Coutinho scored his first goal since October on Thursday night as Barca lost to Levante in the Copa del Rey.

Speaking after the match, Valverde warned the 26-year-old must knuckle down to win back his place.

"When you do not play and you are not happy, you have to fight to change the situation. Today was a match for that," he said.

"Coutinho is a great player who has given us a lot and will give us a lot."
