Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester United: Gareth Southgate tells talkSPORT what Sir Alex Ferguson told him after Red Devils’ historic win

The Red Devils overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat the French side 3-1 in Paris to reach the Champions League quarter-finals

Sir Alex Ferguson said 'that is the Manchester United DNA' after watching the Red Devils claim a sensational win against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night, Gareth Southgate has revealed.

Two goals from Romelu Lukaku and a late penalty from Marcus Rashford saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

The England manager was in the French capital to see the Red Devils progress to the next round.

Southgate, speaking from talkSPORT’s new studios, said: “Ole has done a remarkable job. I’m pleased for him.

“I was talking to Sir Alex Ferguson after the game, briefly, and he was saying 'that’s the United DNA'. That never say die.

"Ole has been connecting with the fans. He knows the way United are and has those experiences. The players are playing with smiles on their faces and getting the best out of them."

Rashford scored the goal from the penalty spot that sent Manchester United through to the next round.

It was a controversial spot-kick, awarded via VAR, but the pressure of the situation did not seem to affect the England youngster.

Southgate said: “He is a player we always known was going to be a top talent. He wants to learn from every situation.

“I saw some people say why didn’t Lukaku go for the hat-trick but he didn’t have the chance. Marcus had the ball as soon as it was awarded.
